Bold Lips, Runway to Everyday

ORIGINAL PUBLICATION AUGUST 19, 2015 www.TheLVGuide.com

Supersaturated, bold lips look stunning on the red carpets and runways, but they can be intimidating to incorporate into your makeup routine. This is a trend worth trying, because bright lips are a beautiful and easy way to highlight your smile and brighten your eyes. Here are a few ways to instantly update your look from summer to fall with just a tube of lipstick:

1. Wear your new lipstick over a clear gloss. Applying a highly pigmented, bright lipstick on top of a clear gloss gives it a sheer, glass candy quality. It won’t feel as intense, but it will still give you a pop of color. Try using Grande Lips Collagen Boosting Plumper Clear Gloss to create this look.

2. Mix the old and new. Try mixing your new color with your standby lipstick. Start with a little bit of the bright color and add more of the new color every day until you are comfortable wearing the bold lip alone. The Bdellium Tools retractable lip brushes are the only ones that I use in my kit and make mixing two lip colors a dream.

3. Smudge your lipstick. I like to apply my lip color a little messily and then smudge it a bit with my ring finger, smoothing along the lip line to create a soft, beestung appearance. This makes it look imperfect and more subtle but still brightens in a natural way. Beauty Counter Lip Sheer in Currant is my go to lip and one of my own personal beauty secrets.

Two classic lip colors that will forever live in my kit are Revlon Cherries In The Snow and Chanel Red Coromandel. I use OCC Lip Tar in Grandma or Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Lip Pencil in Streak when I want a more modern look. Experiment with any of these colors and any of these techniques to find out what works for you.

The best thing about trying this trend is that you don’t need to change anything else about your beauty routine–just add this pop of color to your own winning smile and you are ready to showcase your new look!
